Kłóbka

In Kłóbka, Maria Orpiszewska nee Wodzińska resided for the period of 15 years. It was there that she died and was buried in the family tomb of his second husband in the local cemetery. At the end of August 2009 the local Society of Friends of Kłóbka founded a marble plate on the tomb with an inscription indicating the place of burial of Chopin’s fiancée.

In the village there is a historical parish church dating back to the years 1880 – 1881, a devastated manor complex of the Orpiszewski family dating back to 1850, a manor park with the area of 9 ha and an open-air museum with its historical architecture facilities from the area of the Kujawy and Dobrzyńska Land. The open-air museum area is separated from the centre of the village by a deep valley of the Lubieńka river. The open-air museum in Kłóbka referred to as the Dobrzyński Open-air Museum is, formally, a division of the Museum of the Kujawska and Dobrzyńska Land in Włoclawek. The area of 6 ha includes several facilities, which are characteristic of villages located in the Kujawy and Dobrzyń region in the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century. The traditional folk buildings are represented by complete farmhouses and examples of facilities and equipment connected with farmers’ life such as a tavern, smithy, oil house, fire brigade facility, school and a windmill. The buildings are accompanied by wayside shrines, wells, cellars, treadmills and various fences. The rural landscape is complemented by flower and vegetable gardens, greeneries around the facilities, a bed planted with rarely found flax, millet and swede and gardens with its beds planted with lovage, rue and thyme.

The open-air museum in Kłóbka is considered as a “tourist product”, which is worth being specially promoted. Its substantial values have been awarded twice by the Minister of National Culture and Heritage  in competitions for the Museum Event of the Year. Kłóbka is an old village, which was mentioned for the first time in sources dating back to 1327 and its parish is much older as confirmed by the St. Prokop Church indicating to the village origins dating back to the 13th century. Kłóbka was originally owned by the Godziemba family. The family name of Kłobski (Kłóbski) appeared as early as in the first half of the 15th century. In the 16th century the village belonged to the Pomian family and in the 18th century it was owned by the Konecki family. In 1822 the village was purchased by Władysław Morzkowski, who sold in the same year to the Orpiszewski family, which held the village in its possession until 1945. There are three hills over the valley of the Lubieńka river. On one of the hills a church was built and on the other - a manor house surrounded by its park dating back to the 19th century. On the last of the hills there are remains of a medieval keep. The brick church dating back to 1881 was erected in the neo-Gothic style. Inside the church there are three Baroque altars from the third quarter of the 18th century, a late Baroque font with an angel sculpture holding a cup as well as three stone plates commemorating Władysław and Maria Orpiszewski and their son Tomasz Orpiszewski. In the left side altar there is a well preserved painting depicting the Mother of God and Child painted by Maria Orpiszewska.

The manor house in Kłóbka was originally built of wood and after the death of Maria Orpiszewska’s husband it was extended by an eastern storied wing made of brick. In the years 1948 - 1966 it housed a primary school. Today, the manor house with its park is a private property and it is in a bad condition. Efforts are being made to purchase the manor house for the purposes of the museum. The manor house is intended as one of the exhibits of the Open-air Museum. In the untended manor park one can find two tree alleys, a impressive lime tree and an enormous ash tree. The lime tree was named “Maria” and the ash tree – “Władysław” by local culture lovers. In the cemetery there is also a tomb of Szymon Jędrzejczak, a brother to Otylia, the Polish swimming champion (he died in a car crash).
